It was Chester's first cathedral. The tower fell down in 1881. An interesting fact about the church is that a sniper was using the tower to take a shot at King Charles during the Civil War. Charles was on top of Chester Cathedral at the time looking at his forces. The sniper missed Charles but hit one of his generals instead.
